FRENCH OKINAWA GOJU RYU KARATÉ-DO ASSOCIATION .

This association gathers all the dojo, clubs and associations wich follow the traditional  teaching of Master Morio Higaonna, 9th D.AN. It is the french division of the International Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate-do Federation (IOGKF).

Morio Higaonna sensei and Okinawan Bujutsu Goju Ryu Karate are registered and admitted with in the japanese association of old martial arts (Nihon Kobudo Kyokai), leading section of Nihon Budokan of Tokyo.

The kanji of Kobudo means here: "old martial arts". This national association has vocation to recognize and preserve the traditional and original japanese martial arts. Theirs members are numerous to be declared "cultural and national treasures ".

Among these members and in Karate and Kobudo category, appears:

• Ryukyu Kobudo of Akamine,
• Wado Ryu of Otsuka,
• Itosu Ryu of Sasagami,
• Motobu Ti of Uehara,
• Karate and Kobudo of Matayoshi,
• Okinawan Goju Ryu Bujutsu represented by Morio Higaonna.

The chief-instructor delegated by Higaonna sensei is Shihan Bernard Cousin.

The true way

Faithfulness and perseverance are two primary qualities in Karate. Today, the 15 of November 2002, I am trainning since 7 days with Morio Higaonna senseï and his teacher An'ichi Miyagi in Naha, Okinawa. This course of continuing education takes place every two years and is reserved to the national chief instructors.

Today is special for me : I am applicant for the grade exam. I waited for the required numbers of years and we are 14 candidates for this evaluation based on different levels. We prove our experience and knowledge during 3 hours. We are just ending it with 100 pushups, 100 vertical flexions and 100 abdominals. My Karategi is really wet and it really seems hard to me to recover one's wind.

The jury was impressive. It contains two of my sempaï: Léon Pantanowitz senseï from Israël, Bakkies Laubscher senseï who is the first assistant of Higaonna senseï, Higaonna senseï and above all, An'ichi Miyagi senseï ,direct student of the founder of our school Chojun Miyagi. Two days after, one's telling me I succeed my 7th examination. I am really proud to fulfill this test in front of a such indisputable and indiscutable jury wich represent the higher achievement of our Goju Ryu school. Bernard COUSIN
